About
My Work
Specializing?
I do like to work with all the different types of clays. I do personally prefer white color of clay but it doesn't really worry me at all what types of clay I use. Maybe I am still seeking what I really like because there are so many of them I want to try. It is very healing process to make things with my hand .
I decide which clay I use and how to form them after designing process through the drawing.
Some designs become better with hand building, or wheel throwing or slip casting. I specialized in slip casting in my university practice but I do like to use wheel as well as handbuilding.
I like to use inlying and carving a lot. I do use my own designs of geometry patterns most of times and drawing onto the pots to make them one and only in this world.
Inspiration?
I am interested in patterns of nature and natural phenomena. It can be seen through the color of my work or a shape. My personal taste of writings brings some ideas too. Such as a quote, poetry or songs and music I like, also from movies or documentaries too.
I often put my pure feeling of the moments in my work.
In my work, I walk into a place I have never been. I'm calm and quiet, I travel to my past and tomorrow, I'm free and relieved and feeling beautiful.
Working surrounded by trees in the bush for many years is definitely helping me to get inspiration for my work.
The leaves change the color every day, the sky and clouds, the patterns of surface on the tree, and the rocks.
The clean air and wind, dews on the leaf, sound of rain drops and birds singing.
The nature does its job I only need to just dream(and work!).

Belief?
I do believe the power of Art. I think that the Art is feeling from your heart rather than understanding in your brain. The Art should be easy to access to everyone in anywhere, it doesn't necessarily have to be difficult or fantastic. It can be there just around the corner to anyone.
Fundamentally the Ancient people developed a bowl to put food and drink.
Having said that I like to make things with functions.
My work can be very sculptural but I have always considered to put function in it.
Even only a plate itself, it can be a lid when it's upside down or can be hang on the wall as a decorative piece for example.
When I make my pottery, I hope that in being useful, even if it's not that fancy or brilliant, it can still be beautiful to someone, and by 'use' the pottery can be meaningful without being complex and overdone. I hope it can be seen that the imperfections of them add to their uniqueness and handmade originality.

Direction?
I am self-aware of the number of pottery I make. I can only create certain amount of them in my tiny space also I found that much enjoyable making something when I only feel like it.
And I want to stick to that.
I don't mind getting random result that I didn't expect. I spent many years to draw one perfect line in my art practices to get the accurate result. I have been seeking a perfect angle or a perfect shape.
I now want to be more generous on my work as I do start to love more of the natural shapes and the colors or uneven lines. It is like the nature has its certain patterns itself but also changeable on its own way. The nature has its own rules and irregularity.
It is related to things that are looking differently from the different angle. Even if we are looking at the same thing but can have all different thoughts as we all have different views on things.
From the 3 years of studying photography and practicing drawing also might have taught me how to visualize abstract images or written words into a 3D type of work.
My working process is making myself to step into a different position to something else.
I like to put my cultural spirit in my work. I am proud to be who I am and where I come from, I would love to share my culture and language through my pottery.
